About usUCL’s (UPC) is a one-year full-time foundation course for international students of high academic potential. It provides knowledge, skills and support for around 170 students each year who plan to study an undergraduate degree at UCL or other Russell Group UK universities, but whose qualifications do not allow them direct admission. Academic content is positioned between A-level and undergraduate, delivered by experienced UCL Lecturers, and assessed following UCL regulations. The UPC is based within the , within the IOE.is one of six subject options on the UPC for the Humanities pathway (UPCH), with a typical cohort of 28 students aiming towards a diverse range of undergraduate degrees. It introduces students to human geography approaches, research and literature, drawing on a broad range of topics and concepts from the social sciences, with an additional focus (in Term Two) on the urban built environment. Taught content is broadly framed around the phenomenon of ‘a global world’, which is critically examined through topics such as space/place, colonial and post-colonial geographies, cultural globalization, mobilities/migration, and urbanization, built environment and architecture. Students attend lectures, seminars and classes, complete regular assessments, and undertake an independent (3000-word) research project. The Geography and the Built Environment subject is overseen by a Convenor in the Department of Geography (Dr Alan Latham).About the roleThis position is envisaged as a ‘team teaching’ role, working alongside a second tutor to lead, plan, deliver and support teaching and learning on Geography and the Built Environment (with some contributions to, or collaboration with, other UPCH subjects). The successful applicant will be responsible for designing lectures and resources, leading seminars, supervising research projects, undertaking marking and assessment and overseeing the smooth running of the course. Teaching will be shared with the other tutor by weeks and/or topics and it is expected that the applicants will lead the blocks of teaching on some topics, while contributing as required on the remainder (and as required throughout the three teaching terms).Please note, the role is part-time – 0.5FTE (18.25h/w). Salary brackets – £42,099-£50,585 including London Allowance pro rata per annum.About youYou will demonstrate an aptitude for undergraduate-style teaching in a Russell Group setting and will be equipped to support a diverse cohort of international learners in their progression to undergraduate study. You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (PhD candidates with a thesis close to final submission stage will also be considered) and a first degree in human geography, architecture/urbanism, sociology, or other related disciplines.
