CatSci Ltd has extensive knowledge and expertise in a wide range of chemistry from discovery support through to full-scale manufacturing and life-cycle management.Location: Cardiff, UKReports to: Analytical Team LeaderContract: PermanentCompensation: £46,000 – £54,000Company Benefits: 25 days holidays (increases with tenure) + private medical cover + life cover + pension scheme options + volunteering days + other enhanced company benefits.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Reporting directly to the Analytical Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as the Analytical Lead on customer projects, taking personal responsibility for the quality, integrity, communication, and delivery of science on your projects, and maintaining strong relationships with customers
  • Developing and integrating new capabilities from your first principle knowledge and the latest industry and academic thinking to advance the scientific capabilities deployed for our customers.
  • Development and validation of analytical methods for small molecule intermediates, API and drug products (such as LC/GC-MS) and novel solutions that meet our customer expectations and timelines
  • Analytical problem solving and instrument troubleshooting working as one team with other members of PR&D
  • Application of digital tools and approaches to deliver fast and efficient process understanding for our clients
  • Leading initiatives to improve the analytical team’s expertise in advanced methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Including mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level scientists
  • Leads safety standards in the laboratory in own work and compliance of team with safety principles, acts as a role model

Knowledge and SkillsThe ideal candidate will have:

  • BSc in Chemistry (or related subject) PhD advantageous
  • Broad experience in analytical science with substantial and proven expertise in the development of pharmaceutical products or related chemical industries.
  • Proven ability to develop scientifically sound and robust methods of analysis using NMR, HPLC, GC, MS and other related techniques used for API and DP analysis
  • Expertise in writing clear reports from complex analytical data, drawing clear conclusions and the ability to communicate in technical language with scientific peers including customers.
  • Experience in common chromatographic data systems from Agilent, Waters, Thermo, Shimadzu and others
  • An appreciation of, or expertise in, synthetic chemistry, physical organic, and/or catalysis would be advantageous
  • Well-developed data management and visualisation skills
  • Good knowledge of applicable standards and an understanding of HSSE

Expected salary

£46000 – 54000 per year
