The School serves a diverse adult learner population of 8-10,000+ annually, from pre-collegiate to post-retirement age. Leveraging both face-to-face and online delivery formats, the School offers a combined total of 60+ credit and non-credit programs and courses of varying duration at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. The McGill School of Continuing Studies invites applications for a three (3) year, renewable appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor or Faculty lecturer (non-tenured, ranked contract academic staff, rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience) in Parliamentary Studies and Public Affairs. We are interested in receiving applications from candidates who have a background in Parliamentary Studies, Public Administration or Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, or a related field. Research-based teaching excellence, expertise in fostering active learning and inclusive environments, and experience in developing parliamentary networking partnerships are strongly sought qualities.This is a full-time, ranked academic, non-tenure-track (contract academic staff) position with an initial three (3) year appointment, renewable depending on performance and budget. The position includes teaching and administrative program oversight responsibilities, and other contributions (e.g., applied research). The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to an inclusive learning community. The desired start date is September 1, 2024.Job Duties:Under the direct supervision of the Administration & Governance Director, the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level and/or professional development courses — actual course load will depend on the scope of academic administrative responsibilities/special projects as determined in consultation with the Director of the unit;Undertake academic research, in collaboration with national and international partners, and ensure that research results feed back into the Parliamentary or related programs;Oversee the academic content of the Parliamentary programs;Provide leadership and guidance to Course Lecturers in best practices in teaching, course design, and assessment for an Indigenous audience, including holding regular teaching-team meetings; Assume primary responsibility for maintaining the academic rigour of these courses, including ensuring that pedagogical methods are up to date;Work productively with the Director of the unit and SCS administrative staff to schedule programming;Develop and maintain fruitful working relationships with the University’s Faculties and Schools and with key University service units;Liaise with the School’s Communication and Marketing department; Participate in A&G, SCS, and University orientation and promotional events.Serve on the academic departmental committee; Serve on SCS and University committees and work groups as needed and available;Contribute to the decolonization of the curriculum through best practices in equitable, diverse and inclusive content and expert resources development and integration of non-European/non-Western and/or Indigenous traditions and systems; Contribute to the School’s and University’s equity, diversity, and inclusivity initiatives both within and outside the classroom.Education/Experience RequiredGraduate degree (PhD preferred) in International Relations, Public Administration, Political Sciences, or a closely related field;Teaching experience in the field of parliamentary governance, or related fields.Demonstrated professional experience in a public administration and/or parliamentary strengthening organization;Experience in developing global parliamentary networking partnerships, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, and/or Asia or Latin America.Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesExperience with program or course development and delivery in a parliamentary setting.Experience supervising and mentoring instructional staff.Experience in online, blended, and hybrid course development and delivery.Demonstrated ability to use appropriate technologies to support student learning.Demonstrated commitment to keeping abreast of developments in the field.Publications and/or presentations in the field.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Demonstrated experience of working in an international organization is an asset.Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to lead as well as participate in teams.Knowledge of French and English.
