We are committed to develop individuals and careers, across staff and students, developing and supporting our subject discipline.About the roleThe Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering is looking to appoint a full-time Associate Professor (Teaching) in Robotics. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take up the position by the start of the first term of the 2025-26 academic year.The purpose of this post is to lead the Department in undergraduate teaching in topics related to Robotics. This will include running a series of modules, laboratories and design projects in the broad area of Robotics, using core Electronic Engineering principles in sensor systems (data acquisition), control theory, digital electronics and programming microprocessors as well as covering systems integration aspects. The role will also include contributing to the future development of courses in Robotics in collaboration with other departments in the Engineering Sciences Faculty. It is also expected that the role will include supporting the supervision of project students, as well as other planning, tutoring, and assessment activities. The role will also involve working closely with other academics in the Department, and with appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs).This post is on the Teaching/Education track and it is not an academic research track post, but candidates are encouraged to collaborate with research groups. The post holder will be expected to work across the full calendar year. The post holder will be expected to work occasional flexible hours to suit the needs of the role e.g. they may be required to work in the evening and/or weekends to support events run by the Department. The appointee is required to successfully complete the UCL Centre for Advancing Learning and Teaching Arena 2 training programme, which leads to a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), unless they possess an appropriate qualification providing exemption from this requirement.About youApplicants should have a PhD in electronic engineering, computer science or equivalent qualifications and/or experience. Significant teaching within an electronic engineering or computer science context is required. Applicants should have experience leading a team or making a significant contribution within a subject field, for example, as programme leader, to deliver education excellence and curriculum reform where appropriate.The desired candidate will have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with students, academics and professional services staff at all levels. They should be able to motivate and engage students, with an enthusiasm for teaching technologies and other teaching innovations. The desired candidate will have excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to analyse existing processes to improve efficiency.Having a Higher Education teaching qualification is desirable, as well as experience using virtual learning environments such as Moodle or Blackboard.Application detailsTo apply for the role, click the ‘Apply Now’ button at the bottom or top of the page.It is essential that the following are uploaded in your application.
