About usUCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) invites application for an Associate Professor (Teaching) with experience in Ophthalmology (any profession) to act as the Programme Lead for the MSc in Optometry and Ophthalmology suite of programmes including the Degree Apprenticeship.The post offers an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in education in a highly successful and dynamic research and teaching Institute, as well as benefiting from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences and UCL. The IoO also has a long-standing partnership with Moorfields Eye Hospital and together, we represent the largest co-located site for eye research, education and care in the world.About the roleThe Associate Professor (Teaching) will work closely with Module leads and the IoO Education Team to deliver the programmes and to ensure its continued success.The role holder will be responsible, in conjunction with the other Programme/Module Leads where appropriate, for the organisation and management of the programme, for continued quality and for the academic experience of the students on the programme. The postholder will also contribute to other teaching and short courses.S/he will be expected to be a member of the Departmental Education Committee at IoO and/or any relevant sub-committees and to play an active part in the development of the Institute’s education portfolio and the enhancement of the student educational experience. The role holder will work closely with the Joint Education Team, particularly the IoO Education Manager and the dedicated Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator.This role is offered on a secondment basis at 0.2 FTE (7.3 hrs per week) to both UCL staff and applicants from external organisations until 31/08/2025.UCL staff will be appointed at Grade 9. Remuneration for external candidates will be commensurate with their current salary.About youYou will hold a PhD in Ophthalmology or a related discipline or have equivalent experience and will have a solid background in ophthalmology education including extended knowledge of the advanced practice framework for non-medical professionals and understanding of the apprenticeship framework.The successful candidate will have higher education teaching experience including experience of leading a programme and module and experience of developing teaching technologies. Experience of course design and assessment techniques is essential.You will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with communities targeted by this programme standard of quality in terms of presentation and accuracy.In addition, you will demonstrate experience of leading positive culture change, or culture creation, within a discipline, department or organisation.What we offerWorking with some of the greatest intellects in the world, UCL also offers a generous pension scheme and holiday allowance, plus closure and bank holidays as well as enhanced parental pay and more.
