Job Description:

The Associate Vice President, Finance supporting Credit Cards and Personal Lending Business reports to the Vice President, Finance, Canadian Personal Bank and is responsible for leading a dedicated team in Finance professionals responsible for Finance measurement, analysis, and decision support.

Position Specific Accountabilities:

This role provides senior financial and operational thought leadership to the Canadian Credit Cards and Personal Lending Businesses. In addition to the business partners, the team works closely with a range of partners including Marketing, Data & Analytics, Treasury, ESDS, Segment Finance, Chief Accountant’s department, tax, and Financial Operations. Reporting to this role is a team of finance professionals.

Finance and Business Leadership Accountabilities:

The AVP performs the role of business advisor while providing constructive and effective challenge to multiple initiatives in Credit Cards and Personal Lending. The AVP works closely with the EVP, Credit Cards and Personal Lending as well as their executive and leadership teams. The role includes oversight of:

  • Financial planning, reporting, and forecasting and presenting results to each businesses’ Executive leadership team on a regular basis (VPs as well as the EVP)

  • Business advisory and ad hoc support

  • Proactively identify financial opportunities, risks, and solutions

  • Review of financial and strategic benefits of various business development and growth initiatives such as potential partnerships

  • Advise on P&L optimization opportunities including rewards points liabilities, payment network commitments, expense management, and productivity.

  • Telling the financial story, linking the strategic priorities and accomplishments of the group while providing value add advice to gain financial efficiencies while optimizing group effectiveness.

  • Provide direction on allocation methodology and insights on impacts to Finance and Business segments.

  • Oversee financial reporting signoff and engaging in appropriate audit engagements, including advising on accounting policy implications.

Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations:

  • CA/CMA/CGA/MBA/CFA would be an asset.

Other Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • A finance executive / top level professional with broad range of financial management and advisory experience with extensive understanding of the business and key financial drivers

  • Possess advance level of expertise and financial acumen to provide insight on strategy development and be a strategic partner to the business on a broad range of financial matters

  • Balanced approach, ability to stay resilient under pressure

  • People leadership is key element to this role – both the ability to effectively work in teams across the bank with multiple stakeholders, influence and align others

  • Proven ability to manage a diverse group of professionals is critical to success in this role

  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities

  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate working with business and senior management at all levels.

  • Excellent analytical skills in assessing finance / market and business issues and exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
