Faculty of History in association with Balliol CollegeThe Faculty of History is seeking applications from leaders in the field of global and imperial history, broadly defined, for the position of Beit Professor of Global and Imperial History.The Beit Chair is the most prominent post in the key area of global and imperial history at Oxford, and we wish to appoint a distinguished scholar with an excellent record of innovative research and publications; the capacity to lead and inspire others; and an ability to communicate the importance of history to a wide public. Applications for the post are particularly welcome from women and from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.The Beit Professor will be a champion for global and imperial history both externally and internally. You will be expected to lead the development of major new projects which will support the growth of the field, including funded grant applications, workshops, course design, public events and outreach, broadly defined; and, along with senior colleagues, to play an active part in the organising and running of the Global and Imperial strand of the History Faculty. You will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and thesis supervision and to be involved in sustaining and developing the activities of the Oxford Centre for Global History (OCGH). You will also be expected to develop the Faculty’s relationships with research colleagues in the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies.The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon UK time on Monday 13 January 2025.
