The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 24 member organizations of the Pension Fund. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 250 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). This position is located in the Pension Entitlements Section of the Pension Administration of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), Geneva Office. The incumbent will report to a Benefits Officer. The Pension Entitlements Section is responsible for calculating and processing pension entitlements and for ensuring that all eligible participants, retirees and other beneficiaries are serviced in accordance with the Regulations, Rules and Pension Adjustment System of the Fund.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Benefits Officer and the overall supervision of the Chief of the Participation and Entitlements Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: ·Assists in the determination of eligibility and enrolls new entrants. ·Calculation and recalculation of non-complex pension benefits. ·Process benefit letters and send them out to the retiree/beneficiaries. · Provides routine information to individual participants and retirees/beneficiaries as well as administrative staff of member organizations of the Pension Fund, as required. · Drafts routine correspondence and responds to telephone calls in connection with pension enquiries. · Undertakes follow-up with participants, beneficiaries and member Organizations for documents required to process benefits. · Performs necessary research in order to provide accurate information for review of actions taken by a Senior Benefits Assistant to ensure response conforms to the provisions of the rules and regulations of the Pension Fund. · Carries out administrative formalities necessary to admit into, maintain and separate staff members from the Fund. · Monitors and records all changes of status of participants and beneficiaries. ·Originates and updates pension files from enrolment to separation ensuring that all relevant documentation has been received. · Carries out reconciliation of data with pension fund records and follows up with member organizations for corrective actions. · Assists the Benefits Officer in data cleaning project for member organizations and update data during year-end activities . Screens and sorts incoming communications and forwards to appropriate team/individual. · Reviews documentation required for proof of residence and changes in country of residence before submitting to a Senior Benefits Assistant for decision regarding eligibility and effective date. · Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. · Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits administration or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. At least one (1) year of experience in the United Nations Common System or in another international organization is desirable. Experience in an employee benefit scheme related to pension administration is desirable. Experience in reviewing the corresponding computer; in analyzing and presenting data using MS Excel and MS Office are desirable. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French is required and knowledge of the other is also required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a desk review of candidates’ profiles or an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is available through 31 December 2024 with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funding. This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules.
