Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment (TOE)

Established in 2011, TOE is an independent environmental funder based in Oxfordshire. Since its
inception, TOE has disbursed more than £2.8million in grants to fund over 400 high-impact,
locally led projects across Oxfordshire, supporting biodiversity, access to green spaces and
the low carbon agenda.

This is an important and exciting time for TOE, as it seeks to develop new areas of activity
and funding to better support nature recovery. This role will play an important role in helping
the organisation navigate this period of change and will be at the forefront of BNG delivery in
Oxfordshire.

ROLE PURPOSE

Working within the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) team, this post will play a key role in
planning, developing, and delivering TOE’s pipeline of BNG projects as well as broader
engagement with the landowning community in TOE’s area of operation.

  • Build an engagement programme with the landowning community, both directly and indirectly
    (e.g. via farmer clusters), building landowners’ knowledge about BNG and identifying project
    opportunities.
  • Working closely with the Head of BNG & Natural Capital, support the development of key
    tools and processes underpinning TOE’s BNG programme;
  • Support the CEO and Head of BNG & Natural Capital to maintain a strong role in
    influencing BNG policy and practice in Oxfordshire and its neighbouring counties
  • As required, manage any external consultants/suppliers taken on to support the delivery of
    the above.
  • Conduct analysis of emerging Biodiversity Net Gain regulation, guidance and processes (such
    as the metric and BNG register) to ensure that TOE remains fully abreast of key developments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The post will include the following responsibilities and tasks: -

  • Landowner Engagement
  • BNG Project Pipeline Development
  • Portfolio management, monitoring and reporting

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Understanding, ideally gained though practical experience, of farming and/or agricultural
    land management issues and challenges, ideally associated with environmental issues.
  • Demonstrable understanding/experience of Biodiversity Net Gain in both theory and practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal ccommunication skills, with the ability to communicate in a
    straightforward, honest and engaging manner presenting complex information using appropriate
    communication styles to maximise understanding and impact.
  • Ability to prepare reports, project proposals, and project plans.
  • Educated to degree level in a land-based discipline or equivalent level of experience.
  • Well organised, self-motivation and enthusiastic

This is a full time permanent post.
