Do you want to work in a fully UKAS-accredited, modern laboratory environment where you can make a difference?We are seeking to recruit 1 permanent and 1 x 12-month fixed-term Biomedical Science Assistants – Higher Level (HBSA) to cover maternity leave, based in the Pre-Analytics department at the Northern General Hospital.As an HBSA, you will play a crucial role in supporting the efficient functioning of the healthcare laboratory by performing many of the pre-analytical procedures on pathological samples. This includes tasks such as data input, retrieval, issuing reports, and other general laboratory duties. Attention to detail is paramount as you ensure the accuracy of results and maintain the integrity of samples.Throughout the 12 months on the fixed term post, you will have the opportunity to build valuable skills and knowledge. The experience gained in this role will position you well for potential future opportunities within the organisation.Please note, this role will involve working 37.5 core hours spread between 08:00 – 20:00, Monday to Sunday.Main duties of the jobTo assist scientific staff in laboratory activities.Pre-analytical processing of samples to include the receipt, preparation and process.To deal with deliveries and distribution of post, distribution and storage of consumables and handling/management of waste within the department.To perform duties associated with the Specimen Collection Team which is responsible for the transfer of a wide variety of samples taken around the Trust back to the main laboratory.To store, retrieve and dispose of biological material according to the relevant procedures.Deal with direct queries from medical staff, nursing staff and other service users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.Exchanges information with colleagues and service users, e.g. specimen requirements for laboratory tests.Take appropriate action on non-conformity to standard operating procedures, e.g. minimum requirements for specimen acceptance.About usYou will be working for an organisation which values and respects all its staff and the community it serves.
