About the position
Based in one of the Alliance’s offices in Europe (Rome, Italy or Montpellier, France or Leuven, Belgium) and under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Partnerships & Innovative Finance, the candidate will maintain a strong and consistent pipeline of partners and funders who are meaningfully engaged with the Alliance’s mission. By supporting the organization’s engagement efforts, the Temporary Assistant will enhance the Alliance’s ability to secure essential resources for research projects and ensure the smooth implementation of bilateral initiatives. The incumbent will support the preparation phase of the Integrated Soils and Opportunity Crops Value Chain Development Initiative for East and Southern Africa. In close collaboration with the Scientific Leadership and local stakeholders, the candidate will assist in the development of communication and project management materials and provide support in organizing consultations, engaging with partners, and providing briefings following key interactions.

Responsibilities
Project Planning, Implementation, and Reporting
  • Support the project design with operational tasks by providing analysis and content preparation for meetings, consultations, workshops, and events (e.g., briefing notes, concept notes, PowerPoint presentations, speaking points).
  • Develop project documentation (e.g., Terms of Reference, workplans, agendas, and reports).
  • Support and monitor the implementation of projects on the ground in East Africa, working closely with local partners and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Support visibility and communication activities, including the creation of content and promotional materials through graphic design tools (e.g., Canva), and assist in developing communication plans for specific projects.
External Engagement
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners that align with project goals.
  • Assist the project lead in coordinating with partners and stakeholders throughout the execution of projects and activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support the organization and facilitation of consultations with stakeholders in East Africa, ensuring smooth logistics and engagement.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops with partners and donors, providing insights and updates as required.
  • Support follow-up actions after meetings, including drafting briefings and summarizing outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Requirements

Essential Requirements
  • Secondary school education supplemented by office training or related courses.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development, Business, Entrepreneurship, International Relations, or other relevant subjects is highly desirable.
  • Previous relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, design, and organizational skills, with the ability to convey complex and technical content in engaging, succinct, and clear formats.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Strong priority-setting and problem-solving skills.
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative mindset, demonstrated through extracurricular activities.
  • Sound judgment and initiative; ability to work independently within assigned areas.
Desirable Requirements
  • Fluency in Italian is an asset.

 

Benefits

Terms of employment
This is a temporary support position, which will be based in one of the Alliance’s offices in Europe (Rome, Italy or Montpellier, France or Leuven, Belgium), with extensive field missions. The salary is level 4, on a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest. The salary range will be established in accordance with the regional/country standards.
