Your Opportunity

Join Stantec as a Business Center (BC) Practice Leader (BCPL) for our Quebec, Canada based Environmental Services (ES) Team.

Reporting to the Regional Business Leader of ES for Canada East, you will focus on driving technical excellence and delivering project excellence with our local and regional clients.

The BCPL leads by providing innovative project and design solutions, exceptional quality and execution that exceed client expectations with a continued focus on health and safety excellence. The BCPL works closely with other BC leaders to deliver professional services to clients, while championing safety, quality, innovation, and risk management processes.

The position will be flexible (%office, %work from home), our preference is for a technical leader based close to our offices in Quebec City and we will consider candidates near any other office in Quebec. Travel will be required to other Stantec offices, to the field and/or for customer meetings.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong leadership in the areas of communication, trust, problem solving, and mentorship.
  • Champion Stantec’s Safer Together culture and lead health and safety performance of the BC, including the monitoring of leading and lagging indicators, communication of health and safety information and the investigation of incidents.
  • Lead, challenge, and inspire technical staff in multi-disciplinary teams responsible for: Environmental Permitting, Characterization of ecosystems, Impact studies, Waste Management, Climate Change and Geomatics.
  • Coaching/mentoring developing professionals through substantive engagement and communication and foster an inclusive and diverse culture.
  • Identify technical gaps within teams and work with ES leadership and technical leaders to address gaps.
  • Attract key staff to Stantec’s ES team to facilitate growth.
  • Drive technical excellence for projects and proposals within the BC, as well as participate in regular national technical leadership meetings, initiatives, and innovation strategies.
  • Champion Quality Control processes, including internal and external auditing adherence to the Project Management Framework, and supporting training and development of Quality Reviewers and Independent Reviewers.
  • Administer risk management and quality assurance related to projects and opportunities, including review of contracts, and identifying risk triggers.
  • Promote innovation relevant to the BC’s technical disciplines, including sponsoring ES strategic initiatives and tools (e.g., digital tool development) and driving the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit program.
  • Support and contribute to the development and execution of the national business strategy for ES, with accountability for priorities and key performance metrics, including the BC’s topline revenue, utilization, gross margin, and operating income. This includes working with national sector leads, clients, account managers and regional sector staff to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Support the development of the annual business plan, operating budget and contribute to other resource management processes.
  • Develop and manage training programs to support employees’ career development, and the delivery of new services.

Qualifications

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of environmental services work, leadership, technical, financial management, business development and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French. Knowledge of English is required to facilitate collaboration with our internal teams outside Quebec or with our clients.

  • Ability to balance project execution and BC leadership.
  • Strong technical background in one or several disciplines related to Environmental Planning & Permitting, Characterization of ecosystems, Impact assessments at both provincial and federal levels, Waste Management, Climate Change and/or Geomatics.
  • Team player with experience building, leading, and managing large teams.
  • Entrepreneurial minded with a core understanding of business and the challenges of an engineering and environmental consulting services provider.
  • Awareness of professional standards of practice, ethics, and their applicability to Stantec’s business, risk management, and quality frameworks.
  • Ability to clearly convey and distill complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
