The School of Neuroscience, headed by Professor Mark Richardson, is one of three schools under the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) and is comprised of four departments and five centres across the Denmark Hill and Guy’s Campus. We are UK’s second largest Neuroscience school with over 500 researchers and 150 PhD students undertaking world-class research in the study of the nervous system and understanding brain function in health and disease. We encourage and welcome applications from across the community and all appointments are made solely on merit.About the roleAn exciting opportunity to join the Professional Services team in the School of Neuroscience within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). We are seeking to recruit a Business Support Officer (Operations) to join our busy but friendly Business Operations team to support the School as they work to strengthen the partnership between academics, researchers and professional services, delivering high-quality support to all of its members.The post holder will support the Business Operations Team in the day-to-day processes across a variety of operational areas to ensure the smooth running of the School and provide administrative support to key School initiatives to create a welcoming and supportive School culture for staff and students.The role would suit someone who is able to work independently with minimal supervision, organise their own workload, effectively manage competing priorities, has good attention to detail and is able to build and maintain effective working relationships within the Business Operations team and across the wider School, Faculty and University.The role will provide individuals with a wide variety of experience and skills working across multiple operational functions in a large and complex Faculty, supporting the individual to progress their career within Business Operations across the University.Due to the nature of work under the Business Operation activity, this role requires a minimum of 40% of time on campus (Guy’s and Denmark Hill). Depending on the business need, the location may vary from week to week.This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.About youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteria1. Demonstrable administrative skills and knowledge of business operations acquired through previous roles.2. Confidence and experience in processing financial transactions & knowledge of financial systems in a large organisation3. IT skills (including Microsoft 365 package: Excel, Word and Powerpoint) and experience of utilising digital technology in day-to-day work.4. Proven communication and interpersonal skills in order to receive, understand and relay day to day operational information to various groups5. Able to work independently, and as part of a team, contributing new ideas to broader team goals and objectives6. Good organisation and time management skills, with ability to organise workload and manage competing priorities7. Good accuracy and attention to detail, with ability to quickly follow, adapt and teach new procedures and processes.8. Proactive approach and able to problem solve.Desirable criteria1. Keen interest in higher education business operations in the UK.2. Demonstrated commitment to previous roles3.
