The Garrod café at Queen Mary University of London, due to open in September 2023, will provide students, staff and members of the public with a range of cold/hot food and drinks, with an emphasis on outstanding customer service and satisfaction.

QMSU represents and supports over 30,000 students and around 4,500 staff who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London. Garrod Café is based on our Whitechapel Campus of the University, serving primarily our medical and dental course members.   

The Garrod Café Manager will oversee the day-to-day operational management of the café, driving sales growth, delivering both our core customer service and our hospitality service, striving to maintain a culture of excellence in all areas of operation. As a brand-new venue, this is a great opportunity to make your mark from the very start.

You should be a ‘hands on’ approachable leader who is committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core, whilst having the ability to manage around 10 part-time staff. 

Applicants should have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people.  Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines.

The working hours for this role are mainly Monday – Friday. It is a permanent post with a starting salary within the range £30,642 – £32,929 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Please note that the above salary is due to increase in line with the agreed cost of living award. As of 01 August the salary range will £31,421 – £33,845 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
