Project Objective

On November 10, 2022, USAID/Mali awarded the five-year Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Platform contract to SI. The purpose of the MEL Platform is to provide technical and advisory services to design and carry out various monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities for USAID/Mali. This contract has three major components: 1) USAID/Mali monitoring support through a Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) mechanism; 2) Evaluation Services and Surveys (ESS); and 3) Collaborating, Learning, and Adaptive (CLA) Management and Communication Services.

Position Description

Social Impact is collecting CVs for a pool of dedicated notetakers to support baseline/evaluation/assessment teams, producing high quality summary notes after each Key informant interviews (KII) /focus group discussion (FGD) and group interviews (GI). Notetakers will also be expected to attend conferences, workshops, and other learning events to take notes under the project’s CLA Management and Communication Services Component.

Topics covered on technical work range across sectors, including education, democracy and governance, health, economic growth, environment, and others.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Activity Lead, the notetaker will:

  • Record and take notes during interviews and events.
  • Provide high quality summary briefs after events, synthesizing notes taken.
  • Meet with Mali MEL staff before events to understand the event objectives, flow, and notetaking priorities.
  • Take clear, understandable notes based on the event, including documenting notes from the discussion and flipcharts/report outs, and synthesizing key information.
  • Use correct English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax
  • Ensure deliverables are in line with the client’s preferred format (e.g. consistent use of hyphens, capital letters, heading colors, etc.).
  • Share draft and final versions of notes, including addressing Mali MEL Platform and USAID feedback.
  • As requested, provide minimal on-site facilitation support (such as distributing handouts or taking photos).
  • Collaborate in any other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or other related fields.
  • Familiarity with USAID projects in Mali.
  • Ability to document discussions accurately and synthesize information quickly and effectively based on meeting/workshop objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high-quality work with minimal supervision and tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in listening, written, and spoken English, including typing, and impeccable spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Notes should require minimal to no editing.
  • Excellent professionalism, including focus and discretion.
  • Demonstrable experience in English notetaking in a professional environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word.
  • Certain tasks may require familiarity or expertise in a given sector, and any areas of expertise should be noted on candidates’ CVs.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills to successfully support the team.
