wide range of exciting programmes and initiatives and inspiring Council staff, contractors,
residents, businesses and the community to act? We are looking for enthusiastic and committed
individuals, who are passionate for tackling climate change locally and motivated to create new
initiatives that could change the way the Council operates and make Kensington and Chelsea a
more sustainable, resilient, eco-friendly place to live, work, play and visit.

We are recruiting for two roles (two years fixed term) to support the delivery of the Council’s
climate change programme. These roles will work across the Council and with our partners to
deliver a range of climate change projects, securing funding and building strong networks.

These roles will be part of a small team responsible for delivering one of the Council’s top
priorities:

  • Carbon Reduction Technical Officer
  • Climate Emergency Engagement Officer

Carbon Reduction Technical Officer: Help tackle climate change in the
heart of London

At Kensington and Chelsea, we’re taking climate change seriously. In October 2019, we declared
a climate emergency, and since then our Climate Change Team have been responsible for
delivering our Climate Emergency Action Plan with the aim to achieve the Council’s in-house
2030 and the borough-wide 2040 carbon neutral targets.

Building greener, fairer and more climate resilient neighbourhoods and borough and taking a
stand for nature is a fundamental part of our ambitious plans for the future. But we can’t do
it alone.

As a Carbon Reduction Technical Officer, you can help us reach our goals, putting the people
and environment of Kensington and Chelsea first at every turn. This is a truly unique

The Role:

In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering exciting climate change projects from
inception to completion, work collaboratively and strengthening partnerships with a wide range
of stakeholders such as Council departments, partners, schools, community organisations and
local institutions, businesses etc. With the aim of improving resident’s quality of life,
you’ll develop schemes that benefit the community and help us deliver on our environmental and
climate emergency commitments. You’ll be actively involved in delivering the climate change
programme, helping to shape processes and policies, identify and implement carbon reduction
schemes, and monitor and report on the Council’s carbon performance against the carbon neutral
targets.

As an expert in your field, you’ll provide technical advice and expertise to senior leadership
and Council officers, and specialist environmental support to organisations and businesses in
Kensington and Chelsea to help them reduce their environmental impact and carbon footprint.
With the aims of the Council becoming a net zero organisation by 2030 and the borough carbon
neutral by 2040, you’ll be responsible for both in-house and borough-wide carbon reduction
agenda, supporting with finding innovative and creative solutions via a collective approach and
partnership working.

About You:

You’ll be educated to degree level in an environmental subject or other relevant subject area,
with demonstratable knowledge about the current climate change issues affecting local
authorities. You’ll also have an excellent understanding of environmental sustainability
issues, climate change, energy – including current legislation and national policy in an inner
London setting – and the ability to provide appropriate guidance relating to them.

A natural communicator with excellent oral and written skills, you’ll be experienced in
delivering and project managing environmental and climate change projects, and in establishing
working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across all levels of an organisation. On
a personal level, you’ll be well-organised and adept problem solver, capable of working under
pressure and prioritising your own workload. The ideal candidate will be committed and a person
passionate about the environment, and about reducing the impacts of climate change on people
