This post is 8 sessions teaching and 2 sessions clinical, based in Care of the Elderly. It is available for one year commencing 6 August 2025. The post offers the opportunity to become intensively involved in the education of medical students whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment. This post is suitable for those who have just completed their Foundation Programme training as well as those who have undertaken ST1-2 training. You will be joining a wider team of Clinical Teaching Fellows in North Somerset Academy as well as in other Academies, to become part of a faculty that has the specific remit of teaching medical students.Main duties of the jobThe prime function of the post is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring and pastoral support for Medical Students in year 4 (Complex medicine in older people unit) of the Undergraduate curriculum of the University of Bristol. Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTF) are expected to undertake a Medical Education Certificate course of their choosing (from an approved list) and there is also an expectation that CTFs will be involved in educational research, and there is a good track record of successful projects.8 sessions a week will be allocated to Teaching and 2 sessions are allocated for clinical work in Care of the Elderly.Working for our organisationUniversity Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, bringing together a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff and over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites, serving a core population of more than 500,000 people across South West England. Person specificationQualifications and TrainingEssential criteria

• MBBS (or equivalent)
• Current full registration with the GMC
• Completed Foundation Training programme or equivalent in a UK hospital, by commencement of the post.
• Must have worked in paid employment in the NHS for a minimum of 2 years

Desirable criteria

• Good Academic Record
• Intercalated BSc/higher degree/Teaching qualification
• MRCP/MRCS/MRCGP
• ACLS/ATLS/APLS

Skills and AbilitiesEssential criteria

• Competent in history taking and examination skills.
• Ability to perform routine procedures including e.g. lumbar puncture etc.
• Clear logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
• Ability to fulfil all duties of the post.
• Fluent in the English Language
• Prepared to be flexible in working patterns
• Enthusiasm, commitment and common sense

AptitudesEssential criteria

• Able to communicate effectively with Students, patients and their relatives.
• Able to explain complex ideas clearly and effectively
• Able to demonstrate and describe appropriate clinical skills
• Able to establish good working relationships with all members of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good organisational skills and time management. Able to organise own learning.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical audit.
• Understanding of NHS Clinical governance and resource constraints
• Awareness of Clinical Risk Management.
• Awareness of patient safety issues.

Knowledge and ExperienceEssential criteria

• Appropriate defined level of clinical knowledge and clinical competence
• Show awareness of limitations
• Shows knowledge of evidence based practice.
• Evidence of experience of teaching medical students.
• Exposure to different groups/teaching methods.
• Knowledge of University of Bristol curriculum.
• Hands on experience of research
• Publications – abstracts/articles
• Demonstrate interest in research and audit.
• Experience in working in MDT environment
• Experience in Care of the Elderly
