Salary: e.g., UH7 £36,333 pro rata with the potential to progress to £43,156 by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year. 

Location: College Lane and de Havilland Campus, Hatfield- plus some homeworking 

Main duties and responsibilities

The Careers Development Consultant is a key role in the Careers and Employment team providing careers advice, guidance, information, and support, to University of Hertfordshire students and recent graduates to help them plan for and move forward in their career journey.

As the successful candidate, you will promote, deliver, and drive engagement of students in a range of activities that will help them develop their career plans.

You will deliver one to one, and one to many sessions, to enable students and graduates to acquire the skills, knowledge and techniques needed to secure graduate-level employment or further study and to be able to reflect on and articulate these skills to potential employers.

You will be involved in the supporting of student Career Coaches to deliver peer-to-peer, front line support services whilst maintaining quality provision. You will also enhance the student experience by delivering activities which will help realise the University’s strategic goals, including its performance in the Graduate Outcomes Survey and other key employability metrics.

Skill and experience required

As a Careers Development Consultant, you will have experience of establishing and supporting effective relationships with employers and/or students and graduates in the context of graduate employment and work experience, with understanding of providing a front line, customer facing service.

Working within a team of consultants, we as looking for someone with experience of managing a project, recording project progress and impact, and reporting and evaluation, in a target driven environment.

Candidates will ideally have experience of careers or employer related work in a Higher Education environment, where they have knowledge of designing and delivering employability support programmes specifically for students and graduates.

You should have excellent social media and networking skills, evidenced by, strong, and active professional social media profiles and a proven ability to carry out research to provide unique insights into student and/or graduate engagement with careers and employability support

You must have strong interpersonal skills including a track record in establishing effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients – both internal and external.

Qualifications required

We are looking for a candidate with a degree, or with substantial experience. Other relevant qualifications such as in guidance or teaching would be beneficial but not essential.
