Catchment Manager

The Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust (OART) is a registered charity working to protect, restore and
enhance the rivers, streams, estuaries and lakes across the two catchments. Our roots lie
firmly in the local area, and we work closely with communities, business, and partner
organisations to deliver projects focused on improving the environment for both wildlife and
people. A core activity of the Trust is hosting the Adur & Ouse Catchment Partnership.

The Adur & Ouse Catchment Partnership is a consortium of Government Agencies, Local
Authorities, Business, eNGOs, Academic Institutions and CICs which aims to develop and direct
the principles of integrated catchment management, focusing on issues which require the
committed participation of multiple organisations. The Partnership recognises the importance of
strategic thinking seeking to implement long-term resilience to the catchment, considering the
likely future landscape in 25-30 years’ time.

Understanding the threats from climate change and the associated vulnerability of existing
habitats and species is critical to resilience planning which considers both environmental
(flood risk, drought, sea level rise, habitat loss and change) and infrastructure (future
housing and infrastructure planning) needs. Establishing an agreed multi-partner approach will
also ensure that emerging local plans, landscape projects, and catchment management are
underpinned by a cross-organisational, co-developed and agreed approach which provides a
masterplan for protecting, enhancing, and connecting our landscape.

The Role

This role will support the establishment, growth and success of the Adur & Ouse Catchment
Partnership. It will seek to diversify the membership of the partnership whilst bringing
together a wide range of stakeholders, landowners, farmers, community groups and individuals to
co-design and deliver the scale of change necessary if we are to overcome the multiple
challenges impacting the catchment. With a focus on climate adaptation and reducing landscape
vulnerability, the role will facilitate the development and partnership focused delivery which
seeks to increase the quality and quantity of available habitat whilst increasing the
resilience of the public services it provides (e.g. public water supply, flood risk management,
carbon retention and sequestration). Working alongside the existing partners, the role will
seek to draw investment from a range of sources, identifying where existing funding streams and
business plans can align, along with where gaps require the establishment of long-term funding
streams from external sources.

The Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust is committed to offering equal opportunities and positively
encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of age, sex,
race, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital/civil
partnership status, or pregnancy and maternity.

We are open to considering the role as a 0.8FTE position and if this is of interest please
highlight this in your application
