We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles from pure engineering to project management and touch every part of the railway from track, power, signalling to the lifts and escalators which are essential to keep our stations moving.Being multi-disciplinary means we have great opportunities to work in design, development or even the delivery of activities such as our own points operating equipment which move trains from one track to another up to 125mph.Do you consider yourself to have a protected characteristic? If you would like to speak the Resourcing Team, please contact [email protected]About the role (External)To be responsible for the production and verification of Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) models within Network Rail Design Delivery (NRDD), primarily for Network Rail Scour issues. To lead and deliver agreed/allocated proposals from clarification of remit to model completion developing the engineering solutions to best satisfy the Engineering business case and remit.To also liaise with third parties and consent authorities to model scour designs to have an input on design and mitigation of scour.The Ideal Candidate should have all the essential criteria below:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (specialising in fluid mechanics).
  • MSc in water management related discipline.
  • Experienced CFD Modeller with minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • A demonstrable aptitude for water management and scour modelling.
  • Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • A working knowledge of the railway from a water management perspective.
  • An ability to work in a team and communicate effectively articulating complex ideas and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experienced in 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic modelling/analysis.
  • Clear, structured and articulate report writing skills.
  • Understanding of scour theory and relevant industry guidance.

· Desirable but not essential

  • Membership of a relevant engineering professional institution.
  • PhD in relevant topic
  • Experience of using FLOW3D and other CFD software.
  • Experience acting in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge and development of using CFD for other disciplines around the railway.
