We are seeking a Chief of Staff to the Board of Directors.

CHIEF OF STAFF ROLE 

Reporting to the Board Chairman, the Chief of Staff to the Board of Directors will play a critical role in our fast-paced environment that requires thoughtfulness, drive, grit, maturity and enthusiasm for the challenge at hand. The Chief of Staff is an analytical thinker who can work handily with executives, as well as a detail-oriented self-starter who can translate and operationalize that vision. They will oversee strategic initiatives and can engage in detailed research, high quality thought partnership and flawless execution management to effectively support the Board of Directors. Responsibilities of the Chief of Staff broadly include to:

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Board: Use guidance provided, and strategic priorities laid out, by the board to research and recommend new initiatives and improvements to existing work
  • Manage key communications: Draft emails, reports, and other correspondence on behalf of the Board Chairman; support in meetings by taking notes and assuming responsibility for completion of action items
  • Drive flawless and timely execution: Act as the liaison between the Board and other executives, partners and stakeholders to ensure on-time and effective completion of strategic planning, decision-making, projects and initiatives of the Board
  • Consistently build out processes to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and confidentiality: Create and maintain systems and procedures to streamline operations, including accuracy and privacy of confidential files and data records
  • Drive and support innovative pilots: Lead new Board initiatives from ideation through implementation
  • Support partner management: Alongside other team members, ensure grantees and other partner organizations are executing on plan and help to surface both opportunities and issues as they arise

Qualifications

  • 15+ years experience, has worked closely with executives; 5+ years of operational experience preferred
  • Best-in-class analytical thinking and synthesis skills; can demonstrate clear, accurate thinking
  • Can get up to speed on an issue quickly; is able to make meaningful contributions and recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong understanding of how to tailor communications across a range of varied stakeholders
  • Can engage with, and manage, a range of personalities and stakeholders to effectively move forward the Board’s priorities; includes timely escalation of issues, presenting thoughtful solutions, etc.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; possesses detail-orientation
  • Takes initiative to solve problems and to achieve results beyond what it expected
  • Maintains a solutions-oriented mindset; assumes full ownership and accountability over workstreams
  • Ability to balance bold ideas with a humble attitude, always exhibits patience and a desire to learn more
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and an ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and environments

INTERVIEW PROCESS 

Our interview process will include interviews with team members and a simulation to give candidates visibility into the work the Chief of Staff will take on, and give us visibility into how you approach work.
