Job description

Civil Peace Service (ZFD) is a global programme aiming to the prevention of violence and promoting peace. It aims to build a world in which conflicts are resolved without resorting to violence. The programme is run by nine German peace and development organisations in many post-conflict and conflict regions worldwide together with local partners and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ Civil Peace Service Programme in Palestine cooperates with local partners with the following goals: Promoting the psychosocial well-being of local actors and target groups so that the preconditions for constructive encounters and discourses are created; Strengthening the capacities of partner organizations and other civil society actors in opening, maintaining, and shaping safe spaces for children, youth, and their caregivers, within a context of long standing and ongoing experiences of violence and progressing fragmentation of the Palestinian territories and the Palestinian society; Supporting opportunities for encounter, exchange, and dialogue across and beyond geographic and social boundaries in Palestine. The Palestinian Circus School (PCS), partner to the Civil Peace Service programme, aims to teaching circus arts in Bir Zait and other cities like Jenin, Tulkarem, and Jerusalem. PCS addresses the emotional and psychosocial needs of Palestinian youth and children through innovative circus arts programs, aiming to foster creativity, freedom of expression, and social inclusion.

Your tasks

• Advising the PCS on the development and implementation of sustainable life skill learning for social transformation concepts in non-formal education/integrated to the social circus approach, especially with children and youth in the age group of 5 – 14 years
• Facilitating networking and knowledge exchange between the PCS and other partnering organisations in the country and abroad
• Advising for the conceptualization and facilitation of capacity building measures with young circus trainers who are part of PCS programs including the outreach program for building circus hubs in several places in Palestinian Territories with the aim to strengthen the application of the social circus approach and life skill learning
• Strengthening the application of monitoring and evaluation tools within the PCS in cooperation with the local Civil Peace Service team
• Participating in the formulation of peace education approaches that contribute to non-violent conflict transformation coherent with the needs of a context, where vulnerable communities, especially children and youth are subject to the long-term effects of instability, the experience of violence and lack of perspective within a protracted conflict

Your profile

• University degree or equivalent professional work experience in: Social- and Community Work, Social/ Pedagogical Science, Peace and Conflict Studies or a comparable field
• Several years’ experience in pedagogical work, life skills learning, social circus or other creative/performative approaches in non-formal education, preferably first work experience in development cooperation, peace education, conflict transformation and project management
• Ability to work and live in fragile environments; flexible and adaptable to internal and external changes; ambiguity tolerance
• Excellent social and intercultural communication skills
• High experience in cultural and conflict sensitive development
• Working and/or living experience in the Middle East
• Fluent in English (Arabic language skills are an asset)
• Driving licence required

The security situation is very tense. Tailored Security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Freedom of movement is strongly restricted. It is not possible for life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.

GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.
