Climate Change and Environment Strategy Consultant

Brooke is an international non-governmental organisation that aims to improve the health and welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules across the world. We achieve this by effectively engaging communities to build their capacity to improve equid welfare, strengthen local animal health systems, and through advocating with key global players to effect changes in policies and practices for the mutual benefit of both animals and the households whose livelihoods depend on them.

Brooke is developing a new global strategy to 2032 that recognises the increasing impact of climate change, environmental degradation, natural resource pressures, and climate-related shocks on the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules and the communities who depend on them. Brooke’s emerging strategic direction emphasises the importance of building resilience while maintaining a strong focus on its core mission of improving animal welfare.

Over recent years, Brooke has done significant work related to climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian preparedness, sustainable natural resource management, water access, fodder security, community resilience, policy influencing and systems change. However, this work has evolved organically across programmes, technical teams and advocacy functions and has not yet been brought together within an integrated strategy.

We are seeking an experienced climate consultant to lead the development of an organisational Climate and Environment Strategy that aligns with the new Global Strategy and provides a coherent framework for both programme delivery and advocacy engagement. A key element of the assignment will be to map and synthesise existing work, identify gaps and opportunities, and develop practical recommendations for positioning Brooke’s future role within the climate, environment and resilience agenda.
