An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Clinical Genetics based at Canolfan Iechyd Genomig Cymru (Wales Genomic Health Centre).The post is a fixed term (12 months), full time position within the service.The post holder will support the AWMGS team that provides clinical genetics services to the population of South Wales. They will be part of a wider team of medical staff, including Consultants, an Associate Specialist, a Specialist and Specialty Registrars, working closely with Genetic Counsellors, Clinical Scientists and administrative and clerical staff.Main duties of the jobThe All Wales Medical Genomics Service encourages personal development and the post holder will be expected to take an active part in the revalidation and appraisal processes.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.The AWMGS provides specialist genetic services to individuals and families with, or concerned about, rare genetic conditions. The service is made up of clinical and laboratory services which together provide medical genetics services to the population of Wales. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board hosts the AWMGS at the University Hospital of Wales, Singleton Hospital and Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Specialist Consultant Geneticists, Doctors and Genetic Counsellors provide genetic services in all the major hospitals throughout Wales.Between 5,000 and 8,000 rare diseases have been identified within the UK. Each disease affects less than 0.1% of the UK’s population but taken together they affect the lives of 3 million people. AWMGS provides a patient-centred specialised service focused on the provision of diagnosis and advice to promote improved clinical management and quality of life for those affected by or at risk of a genetic condition or congenital abnormalityAbout usCardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 15,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services. Qualifications

- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP / MRCPCH or equivalent

Experience

- Clinical experience/evidence of achievement of core competences in medicine, paediatrics or other relevant specialty
- Evidence of participation in Research and Clinical Governance

- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
