Clinical Fellow (ST3+) in Interventional Cardiology

Applications are invited for a whole time Clinical Fellow post (ST3+ level) in Cardiology. The post is available initially for 12 months, with the possibility to extend thereafter.This is an exciting opportunity to work at the Barts Heart Centre, which houses the merged services previously provided by The London Chest Hospital, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Heart Hospital. The Barts Heart Centre provides tertiary level cardiac care to the population of northeast and north central London.There will be the opportunity to train in diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (depending on previous experience). Duties will include the inpatient care of patients admitted with acute coronary syndromes including through the regional heart attack service. There will also be the potential to be on call including as part of the out of hours on call PCI team, dependent on previous experience and knowledge.The post is ideal for those who have previous experience in cardiology. It is suited to those who wish to develop an interest in interventional cardiology or further specialist interventional training depending upon previous experience. Previous experience in angiography and/or PCI will be desirable but not essential. MRCP or equivalent will be required as is full GMC registration with a license to practice.Further information can be obtained from dr Paul Rees, cardiacexpert@nhs.net or Dr Steve Hamshere, stephenmark.hamshere@nhs.netMain duties of the jobTo provide day-to-day care for inpatients for these services. This includes patients admitted as part of the heart attack service, patients after emergency PCI for myocardial infarction or other acute coronary syndromes and patients undergoing elective procedures. It also includes being the Registrar on call for the heart attack service, through which all acute suspected and confirmed ST elevation myocardial infarction cases are admitted. All these duties are fully supported and supervised by the Consultant body.To support the invasive cardiology service with diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This includes supervising and performing angiography and/or PCI (after appropriate training and competency assessment), reporting and reviewing studies on patients, maintaining patient safety at all times and assisting in the smooth running of these departments. Job responsibilitiesFormal audit and research programmes exist which between them cover many aspects of cardiology including electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, imaging, and heart muscle disease. The post holders would have the opportunity to contribute to projects of their choice.
