College of Biomedical & Life SciencesWe are looking for a full-time Clinical Lecturer in Oral Surgery to join the Dental team in the School of Dentistry, College of Biomedical & Life Sciences. The post will be based at the Heath Park Campus in Cardiff.If you can demonstrate outstanding potential to undertake an academic clinical career in oral surgery, this post offers an exciting opportunity for integrated academic and clinical skills development. We are looking for someone who is aiming to develop their academic career in education (in a variety of contexts) to develop the dentists of the future. The first is for the postholder to support clinical/ non-clinical teaching and assessment for students, mainly in the discipline of Oral Disease . The second purpose of this post is to provide the first steps into a clinical academic career, providing a platform for the development of Dentistry’s future educators and researchers.A major aspect of this post is to provide support for training our clinical students. You will be involved in clinical teaching sessions which are mainly within the dental hospital but with the possibility of undertaking some of these in our outreach centres. Under the leadership of senior clinical academics in the Oral Surgery Department (Professor Thomas, Professor Sivarajasingam and Dr Emanuel), you will help continue to develop our contemporaneous teaching and supervise students in our clinical skills learning environment.You will participate in university, and NHS clinical, governance activities. An appropriate honorary clinical contract will be requested from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. There is no on-call commitment.As the post holder, you will be expected to follow professional development opportunities that map to the Higher Education Academy Professional Standards Framework.This post will be subject to the university probationary period.TeachingThe post holder will:

  • inspire students to reach their full potential;
  • act as a role model for students by setting exemplary ethical standards;
  • provide constructive feedback to students as part of their development;
  • be involved in the development and delivery of clinical and non-clinical teaching and assessment in Oral Disease;
  • provide support for teaching and assessment in Human Diseases;
  • contribute to the overall assessment of dental students within the BDS programme
  • develop innovative learning and teaching to enhance students’ Oral Surgery experience;
  • plan teaching and assessment activities up to one year ahead and if there are significant teaching programme changes or new courses, then plan for up to two years ahead of their introduction; contribute to the learning and teaching, and assessment, strategies of the School; and
  • undertake managerial and organisational duties associated with student education.

ClinicalThe post holder will:

  • hold an honorary clinical contract with the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board;
  • carry out patient screening and clinical treatment;
  • provide dental advice and liaise where necessary with colleagues in other medical disciplines;
  • participate in the management/medical audit requirements of the department in liaison with other colleagues and in line with the NHS.
  • undertake administrative duties associated with NHS clinical activities;
  • comply with NHS clinical governance requirements;
  • comply with NHS policies and procedures; and
  • engage in continuing medical/dental education and professional development and meet requirements to satisfy GDC standards.
