A great opportunity for a Clinical Research Assistant to join the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, to work on a specific project investigating the impact of the light environment on sleep and performance.

The Surrey Sleep Research Centre was founded in 2003 and conducts multidisciplinary and innovative studies on the regulation and function of sleep. The Centre’s research contributes to the understanding of how circadian rhythmicity, light, ageing, chronic stress, and hypnotics impact our sleep physiology and sleep quality.

We value, empower and support every member of staff to get the best out of your unique talents, so you’ll be rewarded with a generous salary, 32 days holiday PLUS Bank Holidays, pension contribution up to 12%, and a unique and vibrant working environment.

Role & Responsibilities

You’ll be involved in recruiting and screening study participants, preparing for and conducting study experimental sessions, and curating data for analysis.  These sessions will involve administering questionnaires and cognitive tests, as well as recording sleep.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with the clinical research team to recruit and screen study participants, including assessing vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, body temperature, ECG and other clinical procedures on participants as required.
  • Communicate effectively with senior staff with regard to study status and any concerns or issues.
  • Carry out actigraphy, psychometric and sleep procedures including wiring up and spectral analysis to support the aims of the Centre
  • Carry out a number of clinical tasks in the laboratory, including processing, storage and freezing of biological samples

You’ll be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be motivated in all aspects of your work. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or prospective Masters/PhD student looking to gain research experience. Knowledge of how to apply sleep recording equipment and score sleep will be an advantage.

This job is based in the Clinical Research Building at the University of Surrey, requiring early mornings, late nights, overnight, and weekend shifts.
This is initially a fixed-term opportunity assigned to a specific project, up to January 2024.
