Job Description:Grade AMN2: £43,504 – £64,461 per annumCMVM/Centre for Clinical Brain SciencesFull time: 35 hours per weekFixed Term: 3.5 YearsThe Opportunity:We have an exciting opportunity for a trainee psychiatrist to join our research group as a clinical research fellow. This 3.5 year post is part a major Wellcome-funded project entitled “AMBIENT-BD: Using sleep and circadian rhythms data to understand trajectories and clinical outcomes in bipolar disorder.” (PI Daniel Smith). This position will be of interest to those interested in an academic career and there will be an opportunity to complete a full-time research doctorate (MD or PhD). There is a generous budget for training and conference attendance. The post is full-time but we are open to part-time or flexible working patterns.The postholder will play a key role in the recruitment and clinical assessment of participants in the AMBIENT-BD study ( ), including individuals with bipolar disorder. They will support the collection of data on past psychiatric history, medication status, family history, current mood and radar-data on sleep and rest/activity rhythms. They will also analyse data, draft publications and take part in the knowledge exchange and dissemination activities associated with this project.Your skills and attributes for success:

You therefore must be eligible to hold an honorary contract with NHS Lothian, and must also be registered with the General Medical Council.Salary will be determined on the basis of previous service in the NHS training grades. Normally you will be matched to your current incremental point or nearest equivalent. CCBS comprises the Divisions of Clinical Neurosciences (Head: Professor Siddharthan Chandran), Psychiatry (Head: Professor Daniel Smith) and Neuroimaging Sciences (Head: Professor Joanna Wardlaw). Our work integrates laboratory science, data science, health informatics and clinical research to study the causes, consequences and treatment of all major neurological and psychiatric disorders. Methodological strengths include neuroimaging, clinical trials, neuropathology, neuropsychiatric genetics and regenerative neurology.We have 56 Principal Investigators, 70% of whom are NHS clinicians, grounding our work in clinical need and facilitating translation into patient benefit. We produce more than 500 research outputs per year, leading to improved patient care and NHS policy changes, with substantial impact on morbidity and mortality. CCBS researchers attracted £49M in external funding over the last three years and we collaborate globally, leading national and international consortia in neurodegenerative disorders, global mental health, psychiatric conditions, stroke and small vessel disease.With bases at Edinburgh BioQuarter, Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Western General Hospital, CCBS locations link laboratory and clinical science with informatics, public engagement and commerce to facilitate creative interdisciplinary working. CCBS hosts c.60 postgraduate students, mostly PhDs. We are particularly strong in clinical PhD training, with bespoke funding schemes (e.g. Rowling Scholars), and we host the Wellcome Translational Neuroscience Doctoral Training Programme. Through generous philanthropic support, CCBS has established many specialist research hubs that are expanded by community fundraising and which engage closely with patient groups, policy-makers and public.
