Job number: MED05090About the rolePlease note, this job description is currently under review by the Royal College of Physicians.This is an exciting opportunity for a clinically active academic with a proven track record in the area of bacterial vaccinology or allied field to work within a world class university setting. The successful candidate will be expected to bring or develop a research programme in clinical vaccinology, with an emphasis on early-stage work and experimental medicine. They will be a member of the Department of Infectious Disease, supporting our ambition to develop teaching and training in infection, immunity and vaccinology. The academic opportunities provided by this position include teaching, mentoring of junior academics, leading international research in the field of vaccinology, as well as academic leadership across the multiple faculties within Imperial College. The clinical role of the appointee will be tailored to the successful candidate. The primary relationship will be with the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.What you would be doingResearch: The post holder is expected to develop an independent research programme which complements the research within the Department of Infectious Disease. It is expected they will attract grant funding from external sources, to enable innovative and novel research studies, and play an important role in the Fleming Initiative focussed on antimicrobial resistance.Education – Teaching and Training: This will be a key part of the role. You will be required to deliver teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to PhD level as well as provide mentorship and support for students. Specifically including the development and delivery of lectures, tutorials, exam preparation and marking, mentorship programmes, undergraduate and postgraduate project provision and supervision.Clinical: A formal clinical job plan will be agreed between post holder, Head of Section/Department (Infectious Disease) and Clinical Divisional Director, on behalf of the Medical Director (reviewed annually). For a full-time contract: a total of 10 PAs requiring a minimum of 3 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work).
