JOB SUMMARY

The Vaccine Cold Chain Technician is responsible for regular inspection and maintenance of vaccine refrigerators to ensure optimal functioning and adherence to required temperature standards.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cold Chain Technician has the following responsibilities and duties:

1. Regular inspection and maintenance of vaccine refrigerators to ensure optimal functioning and adherence to required temperature standards.
2. Implement preventive maintenance schedules for all cold chain equipment.
3. Troubleshoot and repair faults in refrigeration systems promptly.
4. Maintain and operate solar power installations that support cold chain systems.
5. Monitor the performance of solar generators and related equipment, ensuring maximum efficiency.
6. Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance of solar panels and batteries.
7. Oversee the operation and maintenance of diesel generators used as backup power sources.
8. Schedule and perform regular checks and maintenance activities.
9. Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and inventory.
10. Prepare and submit regular reports on the status and performance of equipment.
11. Provide training and guidance to health facility staff on basic cold chain equipment and power system maintenance.
12. Develop and update maintenance manuals and protocols.
13. Rapidly respond to emergencies or breakdowns of equipment to minimize disruption to immunization services.
14. Implement contingency plans for power outages and equipment failures.
15. Work closely with health facility staff and other stakeholders.
16. Coordinate with suppliers and technicians for complex repairs and new installations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Should have the following skills, education, and experience:

1. Hands-on experience in solar PV operations and maintenance.
2. Hands-on experience in refrigeration systems operations and maintenance.
3. Minimum of 3 years of field experience in troubleshooting solar PV and cold chain systems.
4. Minimum of 5 years in hands-on electrical experience (panels and controls)
5. Minimum middle technical institute training as an electrician.
6. Experience in Google-SketchUp and AutoCAD is an advantage.
