FAO Mongolia works with the vision “to be a leading, credible and responsive partner in ensuring food and nutrition security of the population”. The office has been coordinating projects and programmes in research, capacity building, natural resources management, technology transfer, food and agriculture policy, livestock production systems management, emergency and post crisis management, forestry information, statistics, food security and nutrition, emergency response operations, crop production system management, and food quality and safety.
The project “ STREAM Mongolia: SusTainable Resilient Ecosystem and Agriculture Management in Mongolia” is part of the Joint Initiative on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable agriculture for key food systems and sustainable value chains (Global Climate Change Alliance & Development-Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture). In Mongolia, the project is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusam-menarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The project is financed by the European Union.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of the National Project Manager of the STREAM project, and in close liaison with the AFAOR and the Communication, Operational, and Admin staff of the FAO.
Technical Focus
The overall objective of the project is to increase Mongolian communities’ capacity to implement innovative and sustainable long-term landscape management to address food system challenges and climate stresses. FAO‘s Specific objective is Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into agricultural landscape management to increase agricultural productivity, sustainability, and value addition.
Tasks and responsibilities
- In close consultation and collaboration with the FAO Mongolia and EU Communication Coordinators and with relevant stakeholders, implement the project Communication and Visibility plan;
- Assist in the preparation and updating of briefs, speeches, talking points, presentations, brochures, infographics, reports, and public information materials about the selected projects;
- Prepare a periodic project newsletter and submit articles about the project activities in the target aimags for publication and on FAO websites;
- To be engaged in complementing the FAO website, developing information and upgrading, disseminating information to the public through social networks, and organizing online advocacy to improve public understanding;
- Undertake field visits to document project field activities, gather stakeholder perceptions, and capture knowledge attitudes, and practices;
- Proactively seek out good beneficiary feature story possibilities for TV, newspaper, and journals;
- Update a sound Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework for the project based on the project documents and the scope and type of activities carried out,
- Prepare and implement the M&E action plan for the project and report on progress made towards achieving the project outputs and project outcomes,
- Collect, process and interpret data collection for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
- Provide technical support for other project experts concerning the integration of M&E in their activities;
- Report monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual progress on the project activities to the Project Managers,
- Act as a project translator and translate a variety of materials including speeches, press releases, brochures, and reports produced by the projects and national consultants, into English or Mongolian as required,
- Perform other duties requested by the project manager;
- Liaise with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following
Minimum Requirements
- A university degree in journalism, communication, public relations, economics, business administration, translation and interpreting of English, or other relevant disciplines.
- 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the field of communication, monitoring, and reporting.
- Working knowledge of written and spoken English.
- Nationality of Mongolia.
Technical/Functional Skills
- An excellent command of English is required as are proven writing and reporting skills, the ability to operate under pressure, and good interpersonal skills,
- Social media experience, and ability to utilize video tools is an advantage
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proactive approach to improve the visibility of the FAO Mongolia activities,
- Experience in awareness-raising activities,
- Strong writing, composition, and editing skills in both English and Mongolian.
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed
