Communication Officer (Zamboanga)

The Communication Officer contributes to the designing, planning and implementing communication projects and activities in coordination with the management of the Zamboanga office and/or Communication Manager. S/he contributes to representing the ICRC externally and building the necessary understanding and acceptance of and support for the ICRC among key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to defining communication strategies and plans of action for Zamboanga in line with the field substructure’s priorities and/or the delegation’s communication/ prevention strategy
  • With minimum supervision, implements relevant activities or supports in the development of tools for operational communication, community engagement, promoting international humanitarian law (IHL), building the Philippine Red Cross communication capacity, public and digital communication, information analysis/ environment scanning
  • Supports the Head of Office and/or Communication Manager in networking with relevant stakeholders and representing the ICRC to various audiences
  • Follows political, security, military and humanitarian developments, as well as other issues relevant to the ICRC’s reputation/ perception and capacity to operate in the Zamboanga area of responsibility, contributing to their analysis
  • Interprets and translates from and into the local language to support communication programmes when required
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the communication team (stock management, event organization)
  • Supports or conducts communication-related training and coaching for Zamboanga Office staff and/or other departments as needed

Qualifications:

  • University degree in communication or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ work experience in the communication field, preferably with an INGO/NGO
  • Experience in working with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement an asset
  • Fluent in oral and written English, Filipino and Bisaya; knowledge of Tausug an advantage
  • Works well under pressure and during crisis
  • Sound knowledge of the political, social and media environment in the Philippines
  • Good communication and networking skills
