Under the supervision of the Chief of Advocacy and Communications, the incumbent of this post assists in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating an advocacy and communication strategy to get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen commitment in support of UNICEF’s mission and objectives in the country, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand.

Key functions, accountability, and related duties:

Within the delegated authority and the given organizational set-up, the incumbent may be accountable for all or assigned areas of the following major duties and results.

  • Communication materials:  Coordinate the production of communication products and materials for the web, various social media channels, and other platforms and purposes in close partnership with the communication team, and programme colleagues in the country office and field offices. Ensure all content is prepared on time and aligned with the country office communication strategy, resource mobilization efforts, and regional and global advocacy priorities and strategies.
  • Media relations: Effective and timely professional assistance and support are provided in drafting and maintaining contact information and materials for journalists and media outlets to communicate the story of UNICEF’s cooperation to a wider audience.
  • Partners and special events: Ensure that the Country Office’s contact list of individuals, groups, organizations, and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), who actively participate in special events and activities that further the country programme goals and whose support can assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives are maintained and further developed.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: Regular monitoring and evaluation activities are undertaken according to the work plan to ensure maximum impact and continuous improvement of country communication efforts. Ensure results and reports are prepared and shared on a timely basis.

The following minimum requirements:

  • Education: University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or any other related field.
  • Work Experience:  Minimum two years of professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media is required. Work experience with INGOs or UN agencies is a strong asset. 
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
