The Role:
Oxfam is looking for Communications Coordinator.
Job Purpose:
Communications Coordinator will support assurance of effective and efficient communications of our programme and impacts to internal and external stakeholders through a variety of materials and channels. Communications Coordinator is a key role within the organization and it provides leadership and technical support across programme to support effective communications. A core aspect of the role is focused on providing coordination and technical support to the development of programmatic communications strategies, materials, including blogs, videos, photo stories and success stories, social media contents and key events. This role likewise contributes to needed internal communications processes at country level, including in relation to strategic change processes, while supporting effective coordination with regional and global communications colleagues. The Communications Coordinator will provide capacity building and training support with regards to communications related work to staff, and partner organizations as a regular part of the role. This may be done directly or via the management of technical experts and consultants. As needed, this role will support Oxfam in Myanmar’s emergency response efforts through the provision of communications and media related technical assistance.
Communications coordinator is also responsible as OiM’s data rights focal person to oversee ethnical gathering, storage and usage of information, data and contents, and digital security in close coordination with IT department.
This position will report to the Head of Advocacy and Communications.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Communications and Coordination
- Provide strategic and technical guidance to programme teams with regards to the development and implementation of impactful communications strategy. Advise and support (and lead on) the development of communications related products and activities, including with respect to multi-media materials (including video and photo stories), human interest stories, organizational materials, programme success stories and blogs, events and public engagement, social media contents, and more.
- Oversee all of Oxfam in Myanmar’s communications platforms, ensure content and messaging is engaging and in line with Oxfam’s values and identify new opportunities for Oxfam in Myanmar to reach targeted audiences.
- Lead internal communications efforts, including via regular newsletters and intranet platforms as well as periodic initiatives that may be in response to strategic/change processes.
- Design and develop Oxfam in Myanmar’s information, education and communications materials.
- Act as Oxfam in Myanmar’s ‘brand champion’ and ensure that staff understand and follow brand guidelines in all communications.
- Work on communications-related activities for Oxfam in Myanmar’s emergency response efforts.
- Conduct regular story and photo gathering visit in close coordination with Programme Quality and Impact Department.
- Establish and facilitate communications coordination group within Oxfam in Myanmar.
Capacity Building & Training
- Develop and deliver communications capacity building efforts, including trainings, for Oxfam in Myanmar staff, and partners.
- Support and coach staff and partners on writing success stories.
- Deliver induction briefings and periodic sharing sessions with staff to ensure common understanding of Oxfam in Myanmar’s social media guidelines, brand guidelines, sign-off protocol and other relevant communications related processes and policies and how they relate to Oxfam’s values and mission.
Contextual Assessment and Analytics
- Gather news and information from reliable media sources to inform programme and influencing agenda.
- Develop and disseminate weekly context trend and media analysis for staff members in coordination with international policy and communications coordinator.
- Contribute to the development of Situation Report.
Data Rights and Digital Security
- Act as data rights focal for Oxfam in Myanmar and support programme team on ethnical gathering, storing and using information and data.
- Conduct regular session on digital security for staff and partners in close coordination with IT team and external consultant(s).
- Reinforce assurance of obtaining free, independent and informed consent for all photos and story gathering.
Management
- Develop and manage communications activities, reporting, and day to day implementation including management of consultants.
- Support for effective planning and implementation of advocacy and communications team’s annual workplan.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Advocacy and Communications, and/or the Country Director.
What we are looking for:
- Demonstrated skills and experience working in communications and/or media sector, preferable with some experience in the NGO sector.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills in English and Myanmar languages.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant communications and media environment and key technical skills, including video editing, photo editing and/or design.
- Proven ability to work independently whilst knowing when to refer for advice.
- Proven ability to work across multiple projects with competing demands and timelines.
- Willing and able to adapt priorities in order to respond to changing demands.
- Proven forward planning and critical thinking abilities.
- Actively promotes high standards and continuous improvement.
- Experience of working in highly complex political environments. Direct experience of Myanmar is required.
- Must demonstrate commitment and sensitivity to gender and human rights issues as well as related protection and informed consent considerations.
- Experience of working in insecure environments and of implementing security policies. Ability to travel within Myanmar and occasionally internationally.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of diverse colleagues and partners.
