About the role
The Communications Manager will lead and deliver UKCDR’s communications activities and organise events to promote its core vision and objectives. With the support of the Communications Assistant the job holder will lead the implementation of the UKCDR communications strategy. The role holder will work with colleagues across the organisation and external partners to initiate and develop appropriate, cost-effective processes and activities for the promotion and dissemination of UKCDR work including events, projects, and publications. They will explore new communications approaches to achieve UKCDR objectives. The Communications Manager will line manage the Communications Assistant.
Responsibilities include:
- Implementation of the UKCDR Communications Strategy with the support of the Communications Assistant, designing and delivering high impact communications activities in-line with UKCDR’s three-year strategy, with a particular focus on enhancing our ‘collective voice’ and impact.
- Management and oversight of the new UKCDR website and other communications, and awareness-raising materials:
- Work with and coordinate research communication activities with members and stakeholders, to ensure added value, coordinated messages and maximum outreach
- Take the lead role in communications activities around, and organisation of, UKCDR events such as conferences and workshops
- Lead on cross-organisation reporting and communications work supporting implementation of UKCDR’s governance arrangements
- Line Management of the UKCDR Communications Assistant including supporting their personal development.
Person Specification
- A first or upper second-class Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications or a subject relevant to the work of UKCDR;
- Experience of developing a strategic approach to communication; taking the initiative to explore new modes of communication to help achieve organizational/team objectives.
- Experience of managing and leading communications
- Relevant technical know-how including experience using content management
- Commissioning/managing work contracted out to suppliers, e.g. creative agencies, web developers, PR advisers.
