Community Organiser – Southampton

Are you passionate about supporting communities to create lasting change? Do you believe that people most affected by climate breakdown, nature loss and inequality should have the power to shape the decisions that affect their lives?

Friends of the Earth is looking for a Community Organiser to work alongside local communities, activists and our local action groups to build power, develop leadership and support community-led campaigns that achieve meaningful local change.

This is an exciting opportunity to help strengthen grassroots organising locally, supporting people to come together around shared priorities and take action on the issues that matter most to them.

Key Skills and Attributes

You’ll be skilled in:

• Relationship Building: Able to build trusted relationships with diverse communities, partner organisations, activists and decision-makers, engaging people around shared priorities and creating inclusive spaces for participation.
• Community Organising and Campaigning: Ability to support communities to identify issues, build collective power and develop campaigns that influence decision-makers and deliver meaningful local change.
• Facilitation and Leadership Development: Skilled in facilitating meetings, workshops and community activities, with the ability to develop the confidence, skills and leadership of others through training, mentoring and support.

The Team

The England team is at the heart of grassroots organising at Friends of the Earth and is responsible for supporting nearly 200 Local Action Groups across England to build power and campaign for change.

Contract Details: Fixed term contract for 24 months, in relation to funding.

Hours: Full time (30 hours over 4 days)

Location: Southampton- Homebased
