Community Support and Accompaniment Worker

The NDG Community Council is one of Canada’s oldest not for profit organizations. We are an organisation created by the NDG community that listens, mobilizes, facilitates, and acts. We foster partnerships between residents, community partners, and key players to identify and address needs and emerging issues in order to cultivate strategies and solutions.

 

Job Summary : 

The Community Support and Accompaniment worker will engage in supportive, collaborative and empowering relationships with isolated individuals facing complex barriers.

Tasks range from active listening/individual support, to coaching and advocacy, helping individuals meet their needs. The community support and liaison worker is an exciting pilot project. 

The supervisory committee consists of representatives from multiple partner organizations, each bringing unique expertise and working together to ensure the success of the project.

 

Main responsibilities:

 

Accompaniment: The community worker will engage in supportive, collaborative and empowering relationships with individuals  to help navigate complex issues. Help residents navigate services and resources in a supportive manner.

 

Foster a collaborative referral strategy: Develop a strategy aimed at fostering support links, allowing our partners to identify and connect community members who need support.

Information and referral: Connect users to the resources and services they need

 

Advocacy: Act as an advocate to address and eliminate systemic barriers and create meaningful change.

 

Qualifications & Competencies: (Minimum job requirements) 

  • DEC (Diplôme d’études collégiales) or equivalent in relevant field.
  • Relevant work experience in community work, outreach or related fields (1 year or more).
  • Knowledge of services, resources, community and social issues in NDG and surrounding areas.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and French; knowledge of a third language is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

 

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping and evaluation tools (logs, reference tracking sheets, surveys, registration, etc.)
  • Experience working with diverse populations and engaged in cultural awareness.
  • Candidates must be adaptable and comfortable shaping a newly created role.

 

Tools provided:

  • Communication tools: Cell phone, computer and necessary software.
  • Transport: OPUS card or equivalent for travel within the community.
  • Training: Continuing training in community work, advocacy and relevant skills.

 

Compensation and benefits:

  • Start date: Late September
  • Salary: $23hr /35hrs week, (will include occasional evenings and weekends)
  • 6 month contract renewable April 1st 2025.
  • The employee is entitled to annual leave compensation of [4 %] for the first six months of employment, which will be increased to [8 %] per year thereafter.
