Job Description:Compensation and Job Evaluation SpecialistCorporate Services- Human ResourcesStatus: (1) Contract Full Time; 13-month durationSalary Range: $89,469-$111,834 per annum plus comprehensive benefitsWork Mode: Hybrid*see below for more details about this work mode.Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, MississaugaHours of work:35 hours per weekOur Human Resources Department is looking for a Compensation and Job Evaluation Specialist to join our amazing team of qualified professionals!This position provides leadership, employees and partners with expert knowledge, guidance, recommendations and support for job evaluation and compensation. This includes accountability for complex analysis and maintenance of job evaluation and compensation programs. Delivers services to both union and non-union groups that ensures corporate consistency and compliance with Regional policies and related legislation.What you will do in this Role:Job Evaluation

  • Strategic Job Evaluation Leadership: Take the lead on job evaluation systems for both union and non-union positions, ensuring consistency and alignment across the organization.
  • Comprehensive Job Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis, providing data-driven recommendations to enhance job classification, structure, and titles while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and industry standards.
  • Program Implementation & Maintenance: Oversee the implementation, administration, and maintenance of job evaluation systems and processes to ensure fairness and consistency for all job levels.
  • Expert Guidance & Coaching: Provide coaching and support to management and employee client groups, helping them navigate complex job evaluation issues and policies effectively.
  • Policy Interpretation & Compliance: Expertly interpret job evaluation policies, procedures, and relevant legislation to ensure alignment with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Conflict Resolution & Collaboration: Act as a mediator in resolving job evaluation discrepancies, working collaboratively with leadership and union groups to find equitable solutions and develop long-term strategies.
  • Complex Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, supporting rationales, and statistical analysis to guide organizational decision-making and ensure transparency in job evaluation processes.
  • Training & Development: Facilitate training sessions on job evaluation systems, empowering teams with the knowledge and skills to optimize job classification and evaluation procedures.
  • Data Management & Best Practices: Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date job database and job documentation while continuously monitoring industry trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains competitive and compliant.
  • External Benchmarking & Partnerships: Collaborate with external comparator groups to gather valuable insights and ensure the organization’s job evaluation and compensation systems are aligned with industry standards.

Compensation

  • Compensation Advisory: Serve as a trusted resource for employees and management, offering expert guidance on compensation-related matters and interpreting policies to ensure clarity and compliance.
  • External Benchmarking & Surveys: Lead and conduct tailored external compensation and administration surveys across all job levels and departments, providing valuable market insights to inform strategy and decisions.
  • Pay Administration Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of pay administration systems for non-union employees, including designing competitive pay structures and policies.
  • Compensation Documentation: Prepare, update, and maintain comprehensive documentation for compensation practices, policies, procedures, and structures, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Data Management & Reporting: Oversee the maintenance and updating of compensation databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Generate reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Compensation Data Analysis: Analyze and model compensation data to continuously refine and enhance compensation plans and total rewards programs, ensuring they remain competitive and aligned with business objectives.
  • Support Collective Bargaining: Play a key role in supporting the collective bargaining process by assisting with the development of wage schedules and salary structures that align with organizational priorities and industry standards.

Other

  • Develop complex excel models to conduct analysis incorporating advanced formulas, graphs, and look up tables
  • Provide interpretation of internal policies in order to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations for complex issues
  • Provide work direction, advice/ training to staff within section
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationship with external and internal business partners
  • Provide support to special total rewards projects, as required

What the role requires:

  • University degree in human resources or related field with at least five years job evaluation and compensation experience in complex work environments (including both union and non-union workforces)
  • Knowledge of compensation theory and principles relating to job analysis job documentation, job evaluation and compensation
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation, e.g., Employment Standards Act, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in excel to conduct analysis
  • Highly detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in analysis, reporting, and documentation
  • Understanding of and familiarity with unionized environments with an ability to interpret and administer collective agreements effectively

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders, including leadership, union representatives, consultants,
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations
