Conservation Application Developer

RSPB

We are looking for a Conservation Application Developer to support the development of the
RSPB’s in-house GIS and Conservation Data system.

What’s the role about?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative team supporting the full range
of the RSPB’s conservation work. You’ll use your technical expertise to help us deliver a
replacement to our in house web-mapping and conservation data management system Merlin, finding
innovative solutions to meet the needs of conservation staff across the UK and beyond.

Working closely with the product team and subject matter experts across the RSPB, you will work
in an Agile fashion to deliver value to conservation staff quickly and consistently. Depending
on the nature of requirements you may be building new functionality into existing applications,
or helping to define and deliver new solutions, using the best blend of technologies to ensure
successful delivery.

Working with colleagues across the organisation, you will support the full range of the RSPB’s
work, varying from our management of over 220 nature reserves to our world-class scientific
research, and delivery of landscape scale conservation, to name but a few. As the importance of
collaborative working and open data grows, you will help to integrate our conservation data
with key datasets both within the RSPB and externally to deliver new capabilities and insights.

You will work alongside experienced developers within the Conservation Data Management Unit and
have the opportunity to grow your knowledge of GIS, front and back-end development and working
as part of a high performing Agile team.
