Applications are invited for suitably qualified Consultant Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics for a joint appointment between North Bristol NHS Trust (0.6 wte) and NHS Blood and Transplant (0.4) wte. You would join our committed and enthusiastic team in the department of Immunology and Immunogenetics at North Bristol NHS Trust in a newly created post and will be a key role within the Blood Sciences department of Severn pathology, located at Southmead hospital in Bristol. As part of Blood Sciences at North Bristol the Department of Immunology and Immunogenetics provides a comprehensive clinical diagnostic service to the North Bristol NHS Trust and local community, The department is committed to providing a high quality service for all its users and is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory.   • To have demonstrable knowledge and experience in research as evidenced by formal qualifications e.g. PhD and/or a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • State Registration as a Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Work ExperienceEssential

  • Experience of analysis and interpretation in H&I such that the person can act as an expert in these areas within and outside the Trust.
  • To have appropriate experience in a management role e.g. leading a major section of a Department, or possessing a relevant management qualification with appropriate supporting practical experience.
  • In depth experience of training various grades of Clinical Scientist, Biomedical Scientist staff and other relevant healthcare professionals.

Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesEssential

  • The ability to assimilate a wide range laboratory results and clinical information and advise on interpretationand further investigations.
  • To have an up to date awareness of national policies affecting the NHS, transplantation, transfusion and H&I.
  • Experience of service planning and strategic development.

Personal Qualities/Special CircumstancesEssential

  • Proven Leadership and Management Experience.
  • Effective management skills with the ability to resolve staff issues and mentor junior staff.
