The Education Section works with the Government of China and our partners, communities and parents, to provide the country’s most disadvantaged children with learning opportunities that will change their lives. We help to strengthen China’s education system, so that it addresses the needs of the most excluded and vulnerable children, including those with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and rural and urban poor, while ensuring that girls and boys have the same opportunities. We also promote nurturing environments that ensure that children develop into well-rounded individuals, by meeting their physical, cognitive, creative and social and emotional needs.

How can you make a difference? 

UNICEF China is looking for a consultant who will transfer the Positive Discipline Guidebook into short training curriculum and conduct the training for the child protection focal points of the pilot schools in China. The training curriculum could then be used by the child protection focal points to train other teachers in the pilot schools, and then it will be finally twisted based on the pilots to be applied in all schools in China. 

The consultant is also expected to support the development of other school-based child protection content and resources.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Advanced university degree (master’s or above) in Education, education management or other relevant disciplines.

• Knowledge/Experience/Expertise/Skills required:

• Experience and expertise in school and teacher management

• Expertise in child protection in schools

  Proven experience in applying positive discipline techniques

  Experience and expertise in conducting teacher training

   Experience working with teachers from both eastern cities and rural areas in the western countryside

  Proven experience in high-quality curriculum and training tools development

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
