The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist to continue the development of the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.Applications from individuals with a specialist interest in any area of Gastroenterology would be welcomed.Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).The post is offered on a full-time basis however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.The proposed AAC date is 23/01/2025.Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant, along with the existing Consultant Gastroenterologists will participate in the ‘in hours’ upper GI bleed service, whereby there will be a named Gastroenterologist of the Week who will be the point of contact for any referrals into endoscopy. This Consultant will determine the urgency and priority of the endoscopy required. Daily in-patient slots are protected for any referral to endoscopyThere is an out of hours Consultant Gastroenterologist/ GI bleed rota which operates on a 1 in 8 frequency and will include weekend and bank holidays. At the weekend / bank holiday the Consultant on call will attend site for three hours between 09.00am and midday to conduct a ward round to see new referrals, discharges and acutely unwell patients. They will also provide in-reach into the Acute Medical Unit. Following this, the on-call is non resident. Weekday out of hours on-call is non resident after 5:00p.m. unless there is a requirement to come in for an emergency endoscopic procedure.About usMid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). Job responsibilitiesThe post is offered at 10 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.The 10 PA job plan is split into 8 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 2 PAs of Supporting Professional Activity per week as follows:8 PAs for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) including outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and admin2 PAs for SPA including one core SPA is for private continuing professional development, appraisal and personal KPIs. The second SPA will consist of audit, service developmental, junior doctor supervision and research.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • Full GMC registration and LTP
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)

Experience
Essential

  • Appropriate Gastroenterology experience
  • Appropriate experience in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy

Desirable

  • Experience in Endoscopic Ultrasound
