Consultant Haematologist: General, Thrombosis and Malignant

The clinical haematology team at BHRUT invite applicants for a substantive consultant post.The post attracts 10 PAs delivered over 4.5 days, along with on-call commitment. You will provide a weekly general haematology new patient clinic, a weekly follow-up clinic with myeloma special interest comprising the majority of the clinic, and a weekly thrombosis clinic including new patients and follow up. You would lead the thrombosis MDT fortnightly in rotation with another consultant, and weekly malignant MDT. Clinics are supported by a specialist registrar and a haematology nurse specialist, each with their own area of special interest.Main duties of the jobYou will join a team of consultant haematologists with a strong teaching, laboratory and clinical reputation.You will provide a weekly general haematology new patient clinic, a weekly follow-up clinic with myeloma special interest comprising the majority of the clinic, and a weekly thrombosis clinic including new patients and follow up. You would lead the thrombosis MDT fortnightly in rotation with another consultant, and weekly malignant MDT. This is undertaken on a 2-week block rolling rota shared with other consultants (1:6). Full ward rounds will be undertaken twice a week when you are allocated to ward cover, with daily reviews required for new admissions and unstable patients. The Haematology department
The haematology service is delivered at BHRUT by a team of seven Consultant Haematologists (four full time/three part time), supported by eight Clinical Nurse Specialists, four registrars from the North East London rotation and three clinical fellows covering the day unit and supporting the registrars.The team is based at Queens Hospital and treats a wide range of malignant and benign conditions, including level 2B malignant haematology patients (intensive therapy for AML, Primary Cerebral lymphoma and salvage chemotherapy for lymphoma). There is also a large population of patients with red cell disorders and the haemoglobinopathy team provides acute and community services for these patients.The anticoagulation service is a well-established unit with strong leadership and extensive local protocols for managing our patients. There is a monthly haematology/obstetrics clinic, held jointly between a Consultant Haematologist and a Consultant Obstetrician.Person Specification
