An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive vacancy which has been created for a full time (10 PA) Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in immune haematology to join the Red Cell team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). The postholder will join two existing immune haematology consultants covering the immune haematology service led by Professor Nichola Cooper and five consultants covering the haemoglobinopathy and elderly haematology services.The post holder will join an expanding area of haematology covering patients with primary and secondary causes of immune haematology including ITP, AIHA, AIN, HLH including post immunotherapy cytopenias.The post is primarily based at the Hammersmith Hospital (HH) but encompasses cover for Charing Cross (CXH), Queen Charlotte’s (QCCH), and St Mary’s (SMH) Hospitals.There is a dedicated non-malignant haematology research unit which supports an extensive portfolio of clinical trials and observational studies.Main duties of the jobThe consultant will run 2 immune haematology clinics and one general haematology clinic per week. The immune haematology clinics are supported by all 3 consultants, two clinical nurse specialists (CNS), and clinical fellows and include patients with primary ITP, AIHA and AIN, as well as secondary causes such as lupus, campath and chemotherapy induced autoimmune cytopenias. Imperial is the largest renal transplant centre in the UK, resulting in a large cohort of post campath haematological conditions. In addition, the large cancer centre, and CART centre means that there are many patients with complex immune conditions. This provides an exciting opportunity to direct care for these patients. The immune haematology service at ICHT is also a referral centre for more complex patients, including patients with immunodeficiency related ITP and AIHA.The post holder will undertake ward attending for inpatients on a weekly 1 in 7 rota, providing care for patients with complex immune problems, haemoglobinopathies and other non-malignant blood disorders on dedicated haematology wards with specialist CNS support. Excellent research opportunities are available throughout the Trust and Imperial College London. There are opportunities for research funding from the Medical Research Council, BBSRC, the Wellcome Trust and other medical charities.Managerial duties-There are no specific managerial duties associated with this post, however there is an expectation that the Consultant will engage with consultant colleagues and the Head of Specialty in the overall strategic direction of the service with the Directorate and Divisional triumvirate teams. The appointee will take part in directorate meetings, consultant meetings, quality meetings, and ad-hoc meetings within the department.
