We provide Anaesthetic & Pain services over 3 sites (Pinderfields, Dewsbury and Pontefract) with the acute surgery, obstetric and intensive care services based at Pinderfields (Wakefield). We are a large Trust with all the major surgical specialties and a Regional Burns Centre which provides the opportunity for sub-specialty interests and a passionate support for regional anaesthesia. These new posts are to support an expansion of our theatre capacity with a new day-case Surgical Hub on the Dewsbury site.Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the posts will include:Elective theatre lists: for a variety of different surgical specialties including general surgery, bariatrics, urology, gynaecology, orthopedics, plastic & burns surgery, ENT, ophthalmic and oral & maxillofacial surgery.Anaesthetic services elsewhere in the hospital (e.g. for adult & paediatric emergencies requiring anaesthetic support and interventional radiology & cardiology)Urgent and emergency care duties including out-of-hours on-call schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working.On-call duties will be on the acute & obstetric anaesthetist consultant on-call rota. The current PA allocation for the on-call is 1PA/week.Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. They are offered on a full time (10 PA) basis, although this can be negotiated if requested.Duties will be based across our three hospital sites: Wakefield (Pinderfields), Dewsbury and Pontefract Hospitals. Experience
Essential
- Fully accredited by the college and acceptable to college representative.
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in anaesthetics.
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
- Ability to work flexibly within a team
Desirable
- Advanced training/Special Interest Area in either of:
- Perioperative Medicine
- Major General Surgery (including robotic surgery)
- Advanced training/Special Interest Area:
- Education & Training, especially simulation
- Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or QI work.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Research experience / GCP qualified
Management Skills
Essential
- Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Good time management
- Computer literate.
Desirable
- Possess good organisational and personal management skills
Qualifications

- Medical Degree from recognised medical school
- FRCA or equivalent
