Electrophysiology along with Interventional cardiology make up one of the three directorates within the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. There will also be outpatient clinic responsibility at UCL Hospital.The appointee will join the existing team of consultants to provide specialist care to patients, while supporting clinical/laboratory research as part of the division’s commitment to the goals of the Barts Heart Centre and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The appointee is also expected to raise the departmental profile through teaching and education.The appointee will be expected to be an independent operator for simple and complex ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and be fully familiar with the use of 3D mapping systems. The successful candidate will also be expected to be an independent operator in device implantation including cardiac resynchronisation therapy.A major expectation of this new post is a desire to lead a subspecialty service within the electrophysiology department, aiming to deliver the goal of ‘world class’ in that field through clinical excellence, research and training. The field can suit the applicant’s area of expertise but would need to align with the department currently. Good examples are ventricular tachycardia, cardiac device therapy, complex atrial arrhythmia or inherited arrhythmic syndromes. Job responsibilitiesThe job plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average.The post-holder will mainly work within the EP department St Bartholomew’s Hospital where they will undertake catheter lab procedures, an outpatient clinic and on call duties. In addition there will be 1-2 PAs at UCL Hospital to run an outpatient clinic.A major expectation of this new post is to propel research, particularly in their subspecialty field, publishing regularly and participating fully in scientific meetings, nationally and internationally.This is an outline program, and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with EP Clinical Director, Professor Ross Hunter.It is intended that the post holder will work approximately 8 PAs (direct clinical care) per week, and 2.0 PAs (supporting) when averaged through the year. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director. Time off in lieu will be given where applicable.Person Specification

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration Within 6 months of CCST in Cardiology at interview date
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent

  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international scientific meetings
  • Knowledge of research ethics and grant applications

Desirable

  • First and last name authorship in publications relevant to this post.
  • Being a named applicant on grants.
  • Experience of setting up collaborative multicentre research projects.
  • Demonstration of a research track record relevant to the candidate’s sub-specialty interest.
