The post is advertised as a 10 PA job plan with options to increase. This reflects a firm commitment within UHBW to expand the consultant workforce in Weston ED. The posts provide eligible individuals an ideal opportunity for continued professional development within the recently expanded Department of Emergency Medicine (ED), which forms the Trust’s emergency front door.These are 10PA posts providing 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA/admin each. The posts reflect a firm commitment within UHBW to continue the expansion and development of the consultant team in the Department of Emergency Medicine (ED) to enable shop floor consultant clinical presence to meet Royal College of Emergency Medicine guidelines and the expectations of clinical governance and to ensure the continued development of excellence in Emergency Care. Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will join a team of senior medical and nursing staff committed to expanding the Emergency Service to the people of North Somerset. The common aim will be to deliver the highest quality of Emergency Care to patients whilst developing the department in all aspects of emergency clinical service, training and research. Qualification and Professional Training
Essential
- Fully registered with GMC. Certification of completion of specialist training / CESR OR be within 6 months of gaining it by the interview date (or equivalent.)
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (or equivalent)
- Must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine to take up a permanent Consultant appointment.
- ATLS/ETC, APLS/EPLS. ALS provider
Desirable
- Higher degree eg MSc, PhD, MD.
- Instructor in one or more life support courses (ALS/ATLS/PALS/APLS or equivalent).
- Additional sub-speciality training qualifications, particularly in : PHEM
Professional Practice/ Clinical Skills
Essential
- Evidence of first-rate professional practice.
- Able to demonstrate clinical skills in managing the full range of patient presentations as defined in the Royal College Emergency medicine Curriculum
Desirable
- Evidence of extended clinical skills in areas pertinent to acute and emergency care including but not exclusive to: Intensive Care medicine, Pre hospital medicine, point of care ultrasound, advanced airway management
Further training, eg, Management, Audit
Essential
- Experience of clinical audit and education.
- Evidence of completion of audit project including implementation of recommendations
- Evidence of delivering Quality Improvement Projects
- Evidence to provide clinical leadership for audit programmes
Desirable
- Formal training in QIP methodology
- Completion of formal courses in clinical audit & education
- Participation in or delivery of management training courses.
Research/Teaching/Publications
Essential
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and or postgraduate teaching in formal settings
- Demonstrable teaching ability and research experience. .
- Commitment to participate in research throughout the Emergency Medicine Service.
- Willingness to undertake teaching of clinical staff at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
Desirable
- Completion of Education Training course/further qualifications
- Published research and audit.
- History of designing and leading regional or national studies.
- Peer reviewed publications.

- Evidence of entitlement to live and work in UK.

Clinical Governance

- Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance, with particular reference to the specialty.
