An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Gastroenterology with General (Internal) Medicine at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW). The main site for this post is Weston General Hospital but as we move to full clinical service integration across UHBW, it is anticipated that there will be some element of cross-site working with Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), to be determined through the job planning process.The post is advertised as a 10 PA post, but candidates wishing to be considered for a position with additional or fewer sessions are welcome to apply. The appointment of this position will be part of the 1:11 current consultant on call rota.Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their CCT and ideally have NHS experience. However non-UK applicants wishing to apply for specialist registration could be considered on a fixed term basis.As well as joining a welcoming, talented team in a beautiful town, we offer:Competitive recruitment and retention incentives of up to £20,000 (over three years).Relocation allowance and support of up to £8000 (in line with Trust Relocation Policy)Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will develop special interests to extend the spectrum of the gastroenterology services offered at Weston, and support services currently being developed in the department. The post holder will undertake a total of two general gastroenterology clinics per week and support the endoscopy service with both upper and lower endoscopy procedures. Weston General Hospital is JAG accredited and is proud to have retained this for over 10 years. We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional service. There will be inpatient responsibility for the gastroenterology ward on a 1:3 rotational basis. Qualifications & Training
Essential

  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
  • Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification

Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant specialty
  • Registered with JAG as competent in diagnostic and therapeutic OGD, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

Desirable

  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

Clinical Knowledge and skills
Essential

  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
  • Skills in upper and lower endoscopy

Desirable

  • Broad range of IT skills

Clinical Governance and Audit

  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
