We are looking for 3 new colleagues to join our friendly, supportive department. The posts will be based at Ealing Hospital.This job involves day-to-day care of patients living with frailty on the Geriatric medicine wards, acute floors, Older Persons Rapid Access Clinic (OPRAC) and within other specialist roles such as dementia care, Parkinson’s care or surgical liaison.This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing department, as we undergo an exciting period of expansion and service development. - £7,000 golden hello paymentfor new recruits to be paid in 12 equal instalments
- £12k recruitment and retention fee year 1, 2 & 3 (paid in equal monthly instalments) (new recruits)
- Successful candidates will be also eligible for a relocation allowance of £12,000 (if required)
Main duties of the jobOur department’s aim is to enhance the health and wellbeing of our older population. We deliver a comprehensive range of services across intermediate and secondary care with particular focus on early comprehensive geriatric assessment in the acute setting. Our services include:
- Specialist multidisciplinary care on our wards for older people.
- Comprehensive orthogeriatric service
- An Emergency Department Frailty Service
- OPRAC/SDEC outpatient clinics
- Surgical liaison service
- Parkinson’s service

Job responsibilitiesWe would welcome other subspecialty interests that could enhance our service. We will work with successful candidates to incorporate these into their job plans alongside inpatient geriatric medicine.We are a friendly department working within the Integrated Medicine Division. New Consultants will be supported to develop their own sub-specialty interest and mentoring will be provided. Consultants will be offered the opportunity to participate in the unselected medical take as part of their on-call duties to keep up GIM skills and accreditation.Applications are welcomed from Doctors within 6 months of their CCT, or CESR in Geriatric medicine, and existing consultants looking to relocate. The posts are full time, 10PA (7.5 DCC, 2.5 SPA) however applicants looking to work less than full time are also invited to apply.Person Specification

- MRCP
- Experience in the management of older people
Desirable
- MD, PhD or equivalent
Knowledge & Expertise
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCST in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients.
- IT skills and computer literacy
Desirable
- NHS experience within the last 3 years
Registration
Essential
- Entry on Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine and General Medicine via CCT (within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
Teaching
Essential
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
Desirable
- MD or PhD
- Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
Management & Audit

- Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
- Leadership skills
- Knowledge of finance/budgets
