This post is a unique opportunity to join our innovative and expanding infection department. We welcome applicants with either CCT in Microbiology or joint CCT in infectious Diseases and Microbiology. This is a replacement post offered at 10 PAs full time, though part time applicants with prorate on call will be considered.The post holder will be responsible for contributing to our 24-hour Clinical Infection Service alongside a strong multidisciplinary team including a consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist and Antimicrobial Pharmacy team.Infection services in the trust encompass a wide range of complex and interesting cases including The Mid Yorkshire Regional Adult Burns Centre and Regional Childrens Burns Unit and Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.Our Trust recently attained Teaching status. As part of our journey to University Hospital status, the Trust has a strategic priority to increase our number of clinical academic positions, we would welcome applicants who have an aspiration to adopt a clinical academic role in future.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work effectively alongside clinical colleagues to provide a comprehensive infection service including:Provision of clinical advice from within the Trust, primary care and other healthcare colleagues in our regionAuthorisation and interpretation of laboratory resultsSupervision and liaison with the laboratory teamWorking effectively with junior infection specialist colleagues, the pharmacy team and regional infection specialist colleaguesInfection prevention and control advice – with opportunity to take up Trust infection control roles e.g. DIPCLiaising with the local UKHSA team for notifiable diseases/organisms and participation in mandatory surveillanceMultidisciplinary meetings including haematology, orthopaedics, infection control, regional burns centre and intensive careDeveloping services including outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), undergraduate teaching and researchOn-call duties currently shared on a 1 in 4 basisAbout usWe are an acute trust caring for over one million people in Wakefield and Kirklees. Job responsibilitiesThese replacement posts are offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered.Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields hospital site in Wakefield although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our 3 hospital sites.In addition to routine infection care, there are opportunities to be involved in a number of different areas of care delivery in the Trust, by arrangement with the clinical lead:Specific leadership of a clinical area – to be agreed after discussion with colleagues, including:HaematologyOrthopaedicsBurnsInfection controlWater safety, theatre ventilation and food safety leadsAntimicrobial stewardship (alongside our AMS pharmacy team)Community IV antibiotic provisionResearchWith evolution of the service there is a potential future opportunity to be involved with the delivery of TB and Non-tuberculous mycobacteria infection care. Opportunities also exist to develop services in HIV and infectious diseases. Initially it is expected that this role will be distributed to largely deliver medical microbiology related care(including e.g. OPAT, bone and joint infection), with opportunity to discussion going arrangements after appointment.Shared leadership, direction, innovation and clinical engagement,Implementing effective service improvement strategies and developing strategic partnershipsSupporting creativity and multi-professional development within the service and teamAssuring effective leadership and coherent strategiesHelping the Microbiology Laboratory and Pathology Quality team maintain UKAS accreditationPerson Specification
GMC Registration
Essential

  • Please state full GMC number.
  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC(or eligible for registration within six months of interview).
  • UK trained applicants must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) including Microbiology, or be within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience

  • Wide experience of working within a microbiology department

Qualifications
Essential

  • Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS) from recognised medical school
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in infection speciality (or show evidence of equivalent)
